It is Cushing's Syndrome, Not Crushing's Syndrome!

A life as a human being is not an easy task, as with a tiny error of genetic or DNA, you or your descendant might be having a chance of suffering from some strange gene mutation or imbalanced hormone levels.

Does anyone here ever heard about "Cushing's Syndrome"? Honestly, I didn't even know this disorder, until I saw it happened on Eddie, the son of my best friend, Bernard two months ago...

Two months ago, I went to Bernard's home and dropped him a visit. It is supposed to be a happy reunion after a very long time (six years) but what I found out there is truly shocking and sadness news. The doctor had diagnosed Eddie, a four-year-old boy whose is supposed a very active and cute little buddy, as the rare Cushing's Syndrome patient.

For your information, Cushing's Syndrome or it's also known as Hypercortisolism is an endocrine disorder and it's caused by high levels of cortisol in the blood. The reason that I called it a rare syndrome, as it only happened to less than 10 every million people each year.

Cushing's Syndrome mostly affects those people who aged around 20 to 50, so Eddie was a poor child for being diagnosed by this disorder in such a young age! According to the doctor, the glucocorticoid hormones that being taken by Eddie is the main cause he is having the Cushing's Syndrome (Note: Eddie is also suffering from asthma since two-year-old and he needs the glucocorticol hormones to control it!)

For your information, cortisol is a hormone that released from the adrenal gland in response to ACTH, which it's being released from the pituitary gland. According to the previous research, Pituitary Adenomas is the most common cause of Cushing's Syndrome, where there are benign tumors of the pituitary gland that produces excessive amounts of ACTH.

Those common symptoms of Cushing's Syndrome are including:

  • Depression and anxiety
  • Acne
  • Muscle weakness
  • High blood pressure
  • Fatigue
  • Bones become weaker
  • Skin become thinner

Most of the Cushing's Syndrome patients were being treated by restoring a normal balance of hormones (This is the method where Eddie currently use), surgical removal of the tumor, radiation therapy or chemotherapy.

Eddie, I knew that it's not easy to overcome the painful of this disorder, but I want you to know here that no matter how hard it's going to be, you must always remember that Bernand, your father and your whole family will be fully supported you.

Lastly, I hope may god bless you, my little angel :)

Watermelon - Maybe This Fruit Not For You - Part 2

Alex: "Hurray...Thanks for buying this big and juicy watermelon, I'm can't even wait to put it inside the fridge..."

mom: "Wait, Alex! Don't put it in the fridge, why don't we just eat it now."

Alex: "No way, mom. I want to eat a icy cool watermelon, I want to put it no matter what you said."

mom: "My son, I'm doing this all for your own good..."

Alex: "Huh? Mom, are you trying to fool me around? I'm just want to enjoy a watermelon in cool and icing way, why you being so mean to me?" (Alex started to have tear in his eyes)

mom: "Alex, I'm knew that you love everything in cool condition. However, did you know? If you intake too many icy products, your tongue and teeth nervous system will be paralyzed. At the same time, consuming too much of icy cool watermelon will eventually decrease your digestion function, diarrhea or even ilium/colon cancer too!"

Alex: "Oh my god, are you just kidding me, mom?"

mom: "Nope, I'm telling you the fact and truth. Is OK for you to crunch a watermelon in icy cool condition once in a while, but not too often."

Alex: "Oh I see, don't worry. I will remember your advice, mom."

mom: "That's my boy."

Truly Shocking News For the H5N1 Avian Flu

According to the health report from Rome, 26th March 2008 - the main reason for the outbreaks of avian influenza type H5N1 are ducks, people and rice paddies – rather than chickens!

The H5N1 type avian influenza have been spread like a wild fire in the Thailand and Vietnam, and has the big percentage to behind outbreak persistence in other countries of the Southeast Asia region such as Cambodia and Lao PDR as well.

The National Academy of Sciences of the United States (PNAS), a group of experts from FAO and associated research centres have started to look at the series of waves of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in Thailand and Vietnam between the early 2004 and late 2005. They also found that the main cause for the outbreaks of H5N1 avian influenza is come from the ducks, rice and peoples. This discover also made many of the local peoples shocked about it, as rice is Asian daily main meal and cannot even lived without it...
